Plot
Edit

Added by EmotionboyLuke has the power to make people who he sees as doing bad vanish- forever! The act of making someone vanish is a painless process. Gemma, the girl he loves, and the one person who just might be able to stop him doing what he's doing, feels differently and decides now is the time to confront Luke and stop him once and for all. Throughout the confrontation between Gemma and Luke, we see flashbacks of the latest person, a Thief, whom Luke made vanish. We see the Thief steal a mobile phone from one of two girls in a park, attack a girl on the side of the street, and also see his encounter with Luke just before Luke makes him vanish. Meanwhile in the present, as Gemma constantly challenges Luke on the moral right and wrong thing to do, Luke is tempted to make Gemma vanish herself. Allowing his love for Gemma to restrain him, Luke concedes and reveals that when he sees people do wrong he feels hurt himself, and so is then only able to stop the pain by making them vanish. Gemma feeling the pain of heartbreak at Luke's actions and yet still loving him, tries to persuade Luke to let their love not only get him through the pain, but both of them get through it together. Seemingly having convinced Luke to stop making people vanish, it is when Gemma seals her fate by saying "let's end this", that Luke feels the only way to end both their pain is to make Gemma vanish.

Edit
The concept of a man who had the power to make people vanish and the moral implications of that came about in the mid-2000s for potential development as a series by Lee Neville. Had the story been developed as a series, the first story arc would have started with the introduction of Luke and his power to make people vanish, and then a woman called Gemma would have discovered his power and tried to argue the moral implications of Luke using his power. The first story arc would have seen the growing love relationship between Luke and Gemma, and ended with Luke sadly making Gemma vanish. With the idea having been on the back burner for several years, Lee Neville decided in 2010 that is was time to test out the concept as a short film. The intended highlights of the developmental first story arc were featured in the short film that came to be titled This Dark Place. The audition took place on Wednesday, July 28th. Saturday, July 31st was the first rehearsal. Monday, August 2nd was the second rehearsal and blocking. The late night of Wednesday, August 4th / Thursday, August 5th was the main night shoot. Friday, August 6th was when the day scenes were shot. And Wednesday, August 11th was the night reshoot. The short film was shot in London, United Kingdom.
